Why you get melasma aka sun spots :
Sun Exposure either from when you were a child or as an adult. 50% of pregnant women will be affected by this (sorry), the reason is when you are pregnant your body produces more hormones which causes hyper pigmentation in your skin (brown spots on your face especially forehead, cheeks, around mouth).
Prevention: Stay out of the sun, use a SPF of 15 or higher, wear a hat and No absolutely no tanning your face. You might have already damaged your skin when you were younger but that is no excuse for not taking care of your face and preventing more damage in the future.
Treatments: For people like me who thought "I have naturally tan friendly skin and I don't burn often"... "I never have to worry". Well start worrying and start putting SPF on your face everyday. Start looking for topical creams to lighten your spots; This is one my Dermatologist recomended to me, Hydroquinone (I haven't tried it yet but will let you know how it goes when I do).
Last but not least you can try chemical peels and laser resurfacing treatments, (I read up on it and it say's you will have to get three treatments before you can start to get the results you want) both are costly and painful but beauty is pain (especially if you were silly in your youth).
