Eye Brows 101

I know eye brows seem like such a small thing but in regards to beauty they are very important. Your eye brows frame your face and draw attention to your eyes.

Eye Brow Shape and What It Says About You:

Untamed- Overwelmed, Crazy and/or Wild

Over Tweezed- Control Issues and Suppressed Rage

Curve, slightly rounded- Loveable, Relaxed (note difference between a slight curve and the half moon rounded)

Half Moon- Theatrical, Wanting Attention

Natural Thick- Causal Confidence

Arch- Wise, Arrogant, Strong

Straight- Someone Who Will Hold Their Ground

Thin– Fearless, In Control

Drawings by Jill Morgan, Jill is also the person I would recommend you going to get your brows waxed by here is her number 801-631-2122.

Jill is truely a gifted artist both in drawing and in waxing.
Above is a picture of her... I don't know about you but I feel super comfortable getting my brows waxed by someone who has super cute brows!!!

Eye Brow Matainance:
Combing- You can get an eye brown brush at Target or you can use an old sterilized tooth brush. I use a brush that has a eye lash brush on it as well, I love this product.

Trimming- Here is my trick I comb up and towards the inside of the eye (against the grain). The reason I comb up is to reveal which hairs are too long. The hairs that are sticking way past my brow line, I trim with little cuticle scissors. Don’t try and cut them too tight to your brow, this could make for a slip up and you will have to fill in the bald spot you just cut into your brow.

Shaping- You can make it easy and just go with whatever shape you already have (natural thick look which is trimmed and lightly shaped). If you are unhappy with your shape I would suggest going to someone who specializes in eye brows.

Tweezing- I do this for maintenance really, just clean up stray hairs that are between the brows or under the brow.
My favorite type of tweezers, the angled ones.

Waxing- Always go to a professional, don’t do this to yourself or have one of your friends do it. Waxing your brow is not expensive and has a major impact on how you look (DO IT RIGHT).
The girl I recommend for eye brows is Jill Morgan.  She went to school at Elase Academy and does a great job; what I liked most about Jill is she talked to me about what shape I wanted,
what flattered my face and she educated me on what made a well sculped brow.

These are before and after photo's of my eye brows when I went in to get waxed last.

In this photo, I let my eye brows grow out three weeks with out waxing.  You can still see my general shape but my brow looks bla and a little messy.

Can you see what a big difference a well groomed eye brow makes?

In this photo you can see my eye brow is sculpted in a arch/slight curve shape.

Color and Shading- The majority of women should shade their brows, most don’t but they really should. The goal is to even out the color and make the brow look smooth. Pick a color that is a shade darker than your hair color, then either with a brow pencil or with an angle brush & matte brow powder (eye shadow) lightly shade your brows. I use the angle brush but most people I know use a pencil.

Brow Dying- I have done this a couple of times, it was nice but my brows grow so fast that I thought it was not worth it. I have a friend who has super light brows and she dyes them every couple of weeks and loves it.
Note: Don’t shade your brows in too dark, it will make you look angry and harsh.

Taming- When I was researching the meanings of the brow shape, I read that you can apply some hair spray to your finger and then run it over your brow to keep it tamed. I will try this out and let you know what I thought.

Brow Shaving- Just don’t do it.  So many people I know have had slip ups and shaved the whole brow off.

Brow Tattooing- I have a close friend who does this, she loves it and swears by it. I will probably never do it but everyone has their thing.

Please Note: I have a wonderful, super cute friend who doesn’t have brows (I don’t know if she naturally doesn’t have them and I don’t care) she does such a good job painting them on that I didn’t notice she lacked natural brows. There are times that people don’t have brows (from over plucking, shaving or just a lack of natural eye brows) even in these situations people can still look great and make it work.

  1. I found an A-Maz-ing brow pencil and gel recently! The tiny size of the pencil lets me draw real looking brows, and the gel covers my gray brows and doubles as a smoother to keep my wiley brows in place! I get mone here: https://www.youniqueproducts.com/TerraCarr/products/view/US-32103-04#.Vwn86Koo7qA
